About the function:
The purpose of the function is to manage and troubleshoot existing software applications and programs, and to find/create and implement application solutions to meet to meet clinical goals and patient needs. They will also be responsible for overall maintenance and documentation of existing application that is not managed by external parties. There is an overlap in this function with the Service Desk, and the Applications Consultant will be required to remain available as backfill for frontline Service Desk support as needs arise.

Job responsibilities:
Business/Clinical Improvement
• Champion the simplification of business/clinical processes to improve business/clinical results across the group’s support and clinical systems (PAS, EMR, PMS etc)
• Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the group’s business processes and requirements, procedures, policies and its personnel.
• Engage stakeholders in order to understand business requirements and champion improvements to existing systems and development of new systems that will improve efficiency and quality of care
• As required, either act as technical lead or technical support for new application related initiatives.
• As required, either lead or participate/provide advice for the development/implementation of testing processes and development of significant user stories to ensure new applications/changes are tested according to best practice.
• Participate/provide advice in the development of the Group’s application architecture in order to improve performance or maximise return on investment.
• Maintain communication with significant external health sector stakeholders, such as the Ministry of Health, and other health related organisations that use comparable software.
Business Intelligence and Reporting
• Develop a deep knowledge of the group’s business and clinical drivers as well as our key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Maintain and document an in-depth knowledge of all key clinical and some ‘support’ applications and their respective interfaces.
• Work collaboratively with the finance BI staff to either develop or facilitate access to SQL scripts and stored procedures to enable reporting and extracts from key applications.
• Work collaboratively with the finance team and GMs to ensure accurate and timely KPI reporting
• Champion data quality and drive efficiencies, assisting users by developing application solutions, or reporting to improve business performance.
Operational Excellence
• Act as the escalation point for service desk issues (2nd and 3rd level support) and provide technical guidance to the Service Desk team as required – arranging for more complex issues to be escalated as appropriate
About You:
• BSc in Computer Science – or comparable practice.
• 5+ years’ practice in leading software and process improvements across a complex, multi-site environments.
• Knowledge of application development frameworks (waterfall and Agile) and support methodologies (such as ITIL). • practice with aps like Med tech etc. will be appreciated.
• Demonstrated skill and practice with databases, reporting and Business Intelligence tools.
• Bring a sense of urgency and capability to “get things done”.
• Strong analytical expertise required including a thorough knowledge of how to interpret patient and specialist needs and translate them into application and operational requirements
• Strong customer service and business centric focus.
• practice in assessing, mitigating and managing IS risks in a complex, mission critical environment.
• Track record of delivering results in a busy, dynamic environment with competing priorities.
• Proactively seek out ways to streamline existing processes and add value to our patients, clinical staff and specialists.
