About the function

We have a great opportunity for a Senior Developer practiced in developing and supporting .NET applications and APIs; familiar with working on fast, complex, agile projects; and comfortable building cloud and on premise systems.
located in Wellington, you will be a permanent part of the Small Business Systems team. You will collaborate with people across Information technology and the wider business, and help build new applications that will ensure our education system is equipped to achieve the Ministry’s vision. Our goal is to create modern solutions in Azure in a highly automated fashion. You will write software to deliver open data access, integrate systems handling millions of dollars, and help us improve code quality and automate deployment.
About you
You have five years of practice in programming at a senior level, and a significant tertiary qualification or equivalent practice. You have practice with the Microsoft technologies used all over the software development lifecycle: source control using Git; coding using Visual Studio; building with Azure DevOps; and monitoring with Application Insights.
You’ll bring the following:
   » broad practice programming web applications and RESTful APIs
   » skills with languages and frameworks inc luding C#, JavaScript, Angular, Knockout, ASP.NET, and Entity Framework
   » Familiarity with agile software development methodology and tooling, including continuous integration and continuous delivery
   » Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical abilities
   » A comprehensive knowledge of SQL Server and practice developing stored procedures and database design
   » An consciousness of a range of technologies and their practical applications in supporting business requirements e.g. SSIS, SSRS and Azure
You’ll be responsible for as follows:
   » Working with developers, architects, product owners, and sys-admins to build and deliver working software and business value
   » Communicating to both general business people and technical specialists
   » Researching, planning and implementing best practices and constant improvements of our development process
   » Delivering documentation, training, and support for applications you build
   » Defining, measuring and reporting progress, and helping the success of the application
   » Ensuring the development team is working on the best infrastructure and following the most efficient practices
You will also offer:
   » confidence writing code that is SOLID and DRY
   » strong written and verbal English language abilities
   » proven capability to work in a small, close knit team
   » the right to work in New Zealand
   » the capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga.

The Small Business Systems team builds and supports applications to help the Ministry’s front line and corporate staff to ensure they can get their job done easily and efficiently. We find the right tools for the job, which can range from cloud located micro-services to applications running on the user’s desktop.
We are part of the Web and Applications Services group, full of dedicated and talented people who plan, build, test, and support over 60 significant applications that support the Ministry in its mission to deliver equitable and excellent results.
