OurComputer Science and Software Engineering department (CSSE)is part of AUT’s large, unique, dynamic and interdisciplinarySchool of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences (ECMS).The department constitutes world-leading research skills in AI/Machine Learning, Networks and Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, and Information Systems, with special emphasis on the discovery and application of expertise. Data Science has been an area of strength where we are expecting significant growth in our programmes and courses. Industry and academic interest in this area is high and is expected to continue to rise, our newData Science majoris part of our BCIS degree and We are seeking to expand to postgraduate offerings in the near future. We host the Data Science Research Group, whom along with other colleagues within the school have active research projects with a range of external stakeholders in the area.
This is an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking Professor of Data Science with skills in at least two of the following data science related areas – large databases and data warehousing, artificial intelligence, data mining, machine learning or data visualisation.
Recognising the growth and increasing significance of data across a wealth of disciplines, AUT is looking at pan-university collaboration in analytics as a strategic direction. The appointee would be expected to take a leading function in representing the computing disciplines in these interdisciplinary initiatives. As we continue to grow our programmes, there are also opportunities to guide course development and build interdisciplinary linkages and models.
Other key focus areas include:
   » Providing leadership abilities to the Data Science theme, including securing external research grants and leading teams of colleagues and students to achieve high-quality research results (grants, publications).
   » Providing leadership abilities to the planning and delivery of applied, innovative and theoretically underpinned Data Science curricula, which would include collaboratively working with internal and external stakeholders.
   » Providing leadership abilities to develop the department’s profile both internally and externally for its strengths and innovations in Data Science research and teaching.

   » A record of distinguished academic achievement and research appropriate for appointment as a Professor. A PhD/Doctorate is required.
   » In-depth expertise of at least two of the following data science related areas – large databases and data warehousing, artificial intelligence, data mining, machine learning or data visualisation.
   » Evidence of an consciousness of the growing significance of issues such as security and privacy of data, big data and bias, and commitment to the ethical uses of data.
   » International standing in the area of data science research, leading and working within moderate to large size research teams.
   » Evidence of curriculum design and implementation.
   » Evidence of contributions in the mentoring and the career growth of academic colleagues, especially underrepresented groups
   » A demonstrated record of commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and consciousness of New Zealand as a bi-cultural society.
