The Council is a key player in ensuring the District continues to prosper. Our General Manager – Community is a central function in the organisation - setting direction, developing our people and facilitating performance to deliver the best results for the Whangarei District. As a member of the Strategic leadership abilities Team, working together to implement the strategies and policies of the Council, this function reports directly to the Chief Executive and is specifically responsible for community development, customer services, libraries, venues and events and civil defence. Each function in the team has a focus on the future and is tasked with ensuring long and short-term objectives are met. Exceptional people skills are a must for this function to collaboratively shape and influence our people in meeting our organisational objectives. In an ever-increasing dynamic environment Council recognises its obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and has forums that acexpertise these obligations. The strategic leadership abilities portfolios require engagement with all parties, in particular with M?ori. Along with strategic leadership abilities practice and strong interpersonal abilities, you will bring perspective, influence and transformative skills.
