Job Opportunity: Antony and Margaret Morris Fellowship in Cancer Research:University of AucklandJob description:Job DescriptionThis new endowed fellowship offers an exciting opportunity for a mid-career cancer academic, clinician and clinical scientist to assume a leading position in cancer research and cancer care at the University of Auckland and the Cancer and Blood Directorate, Te Pu?riri o Te Ora, Auckland City Hospital/ADHB. This position will interest those with a proven academic and clinical record in any area of cancer research but with a particular focus on clinical translation, education, and knowledge exchange, that improves the results for New Zealanders living with cancer.The opportunities afforded by this fellowship are many and include the development of pioneering areas of research and the development of linkages across New Zealand. The appointee will be expected to work clinically alongside colleagues Dept of Haematology within the Cancer and Blood Directorate, Auckland City Hospital/ADHB on strategies to improve results for blood cancer patients as well as work closely with philanthropists to expand funding opportunities. The prosperous candidate will demonstrate evidence of a collaborative and inclusive research approach, function-modelling cultural sensitivity, and commitment to equity. Those not already familiar with our cultural context will demonstrate their commitment to developing their knowledge of M?ori and Pacific development, te Tiriti o Waitangi and our place in the Pacific. Candidates should also demonstrate an international reputation in research and clinical cancer care with an established record of peer-reviewed cancer research and research funding success. As a clinician you will provide clinical care for patients under the care of the Clinical Haematology Department within the Cancer and Blood Directorate, Te Pu?riri o Te Ora, at Auckland City Hospital. The service provides secondary and tertiary level care for cancer patients and their whanua through the Departments of Clinical Haematology, Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology. Medical and Radiation Oncology are northern regional services. The Department of Clinical Haematology provides stem cell transplantation and cell therapy for the upper part of the North island. The hospital clinical service has a strong research culture, with participation in industry, co-operative group and investigator driven trials, including the recent establishment of an early phase/phase 1 clinical trials unit. The appointment to the fellowship will be for a renewable term of 5 years. The substantive academic appointment will be made according to the prosperous candidate's research profile and academic practice at the level of Associate Professor. The clinical appointment with the ADHB is anticipated to be 0.3 FTE. You must have a MBChB and FRACP or FRCPA qualification or equivalent, and must be eligible for specialist registration with the New Zealand Medical Council in haematology and align with the Auckland DHBs values.
