Do you have an interest in Public Health? We have a function that offers you the opportunity to make your mark in enhancing the capabilities of our public health service within the Southern region. With continuing requirements around the Public Health Covid-19 response, there will be many opportunities to extend your expertiseet! In this function, you will primarily provide support to our Public Health team at Southern DHB and our response to Covid-19.

tasks include supporting the Public Health response to Covid-19 notifications with the aim of ensuring that people affected by Covid-19 are well supported, and transmission and the impact of the virus is minimised. This includes supporting our Covid 19 Case and Contact Teams by providing clinical leadership abilities and coaching for scoping, gathering of Case and Contact details from new Cases, undertaking risk assessment activities, developing Case Management Plans, leading case reviews, leading outbreaks, upskilling and coaching of team members. Other tasks include providing clinical advice to clinicians, support nurses and health protection agents with assigned areas in support of PHS activities in the control of communicable diseases.

Due to the evolving support needed to manage Covid-19 responses, there is a requirement to participate in a seven-day roster to ensure that our Public Health SMOs are able to delegate clinical work and provide oversight of Covid teams and communicable disease.

Working at SDHB means active participation in a value located and inclusive organisation; therefore your leadership abilities and coaching capabilities will play a part in scoping, gathering of new Case and Contact details, developing a Case Management Plan, lead case reviews, lead outbreaks, and upskilling and coaching of team members. You will be liaising with our local PHO regarding Covid-19 testing implementation and supporting Public Health staff in superviseing testing for border workers. Due to the evolving nature of Public Health Covid-19 response, the capability to cope with rapid change and remain calm and level-headed is key to this function!

We are growing and we have three offices across the district - Dunedin, Invercargill and Queenstown with 69 staff! It's the best time to join us as we are working through an exciting time. Our staff work collaboratively with our partners as we move toward using health in all policies approaches to address the determinants of health, reducing inequities and improving the health and wellbeing of our southern communities where they live, learn, work and play.

About Dunedin

Dunedin is a great little city with a big town feel and well-known for its Southern Hospitality. Outside of work, you will find life in Dunedin to be very easy with its great schools, laid back lifestyle and world-famous wildlife on the Otago Peninsula. This compact yet vibrant regional city has plenty of energy, which is to be expected with Information technology being a University town. This sustains great activities such as theatre, stunning gardens, art galleries, live-music and a diverse selection of restaurants and cafés. Central Otago is a notable holiday destination and many outdoor recreation opportunities are easily accessible from Dunedin.

About you

You will already hold registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand under a general or vocational scope. A full driver's licence is essential and travel will be required.

Closing date: Friday, 10 December 2021.

We will be screening applications before the closing date to ensure we can start interviewing once the function closes on Friday, 10 December 2021 but this may be closed earlier.
