AUT’s LawSchool is New Zealand’s newest and arguably, its most contemporary – blending traditional legal education and focus on legal theory with a strong practical application. AUT law graduates are highly sought after by law firms, business, community organisations and other employers. Over its first decade Information technology has significantly grown in size and stature. The Law School is part ofAUT’s Faculty of Business, Economics and Law. We have over 25 committed and passionate staff who are dedicated to providing an excellent student practice for our incredibly diverse student community, whilst maintaining a focus on high-qualityresearchthat has genuine impact and makes significant continuing contributions to New Zealand’s policies and legal frameworks. We focus on high quality, innovative teaching with authentic practice-located assessment which prepares our graduates for the workplace and provides opportunities for postgraduate study. As a School, we are an open, collegial group and support the growth of our people. We teach at both AUT’s City and South campuses.
Teach, research, lead and collaborate in the field of Law
This is an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking Professor or Associate Professor of Law with skills in one (or more) of the following legal areas: Contract, Torts, Public Law, Criminal Law and / or Trusts, or Tikanga M?ori. We are pursuing interest from active academic citizens interested in taking leading functions supporting the school’s vision for an academically excellent, but practical, legal education that maximises the opportunities for our graduates to make an impact in their future careers.
You will embrace service and leadership abilities opportunities, be hugely involved in school life and be reflective and sensitive to the needs of our particularly diverse student community. You will enjoy helping to mentor more junior staff and work with a truly collaborative approach, developing strong working relationships with colleagues, students and the community – people will know who you are and what you stand for. You will be expected to publish actively in your specialised field; research is well supported within the School and the Faculty also offers a variety of contereliable research funds. Teaching and Learning is also prioritised at AUT and we value excellent educators who approach the classroom with an innovative, inclusive and student-centred approach. Aligned with your research focus, you’ll teach and lead across programmes and courses, and supervise postgraduate research, as agreed with the Dean of Law. The School has an upcoming curriculum review, and your contributions to course and curriculum development will evidence a continuous-improvement focus.
You will be recognised nationally and internationally as a leading scholar in your academic field, who displays attributes of tolerance, empathy, trustworthiness, confidence and kindness. Your capability to listen, connect, collaborate, communicate and influence will be critical – as is your level of strong respect for others coupled with an open and engaging attitude that is flexible to changing requirements.    » A record of distinguished academic achievement and research appropriate for appointment as a Professor or Associate Professor. A postgraduate degree in Law (minimum of a Masters) is required.
   » skills in one (or more) of the following legal areas: Contract, Torts, Public Law, Criminal Law and / or Trusts, or Tikanga M?ori.
   » Evidence of academic leadership abilities functions in the University sector.
   » Evidence of curriculum design and implementation.
   » Evidence of international recognition in legal research.
   » Evidence of contributions in the mentoring and the career growth of academic colleagues, especially underrepresented groups.
   » A demonstrated record of commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and consciousness of New Zealand as a bi-cultural society. expertise and practice of Tikanga M?ori would be advantageous.
   » candidates are welcome to provide evidence of any other practice or achievements significant to the position.
Start Date: The prosperous candidate will ideally start by February 2022. Interviews are expected to take place week commencing 29 November.
