Maori language is the essence of culture and as such is an inherited treasure acexpertised through the Treaty of Waitangi. Information technology is through Maori language that the full range of Maori customs can be expressed, practised, and explained.
About the Te Reo Maori Group
The purpose and goal of the Te Reo Maori Group is to ensure that all learners aged 0-18 who commit to learning in and of the Maori language have access to quality provision and learning practices. The group is responsible for setting the strategic direction to ensure the growth of te reo Maori, the Maori medium pathway and those learning the language.
It is through this learning journey that Maori language learners can access the Maori world and understand their function in it.
About the function of Chief Adviser, Te Reo Maori
The Chief Adviser provides leadership abilities in identifying quality strategies that support the prosperous design, development and implementation of quality Maori language and Maori medium programmes, projects and services.
They lead programmes of work to support students to progress and achievement. They provide thought leadership abilities about how to identify success and about good curriculum development process. They support the strategic overview of group priorities ensuring that Maori language learners and Maori medium needs are appropriately considered, and as necessary, addressed in curriculum development.
If you have good Maori networks, strong capability to grow and maintain positive relationships with te reo Maori organisations, thrive on supporting the whole education system implement initiatives around achievement and leadership abilities, have practice in raising capcapability of clusters of the workforce – then apply for this function.
Te reo Maori fluency isn’t needed, however will help you to succeed and excel in this function.

   » Providing strategic advice to senior leaders
   » Building and fostering trusted relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders
   » Preparing and presenting information clearly and concisely
   » Organising – identifying what matters, anticipating next steps, accurately delivering what was commissioned

   » Involving others and seeking advice at the right points
This Chief Adviser function is a fixed-term position to December 2022.
