The Health Quality and Safety Commission (the Commission) are looking to recruit an advisor to provide consumer engagement and consumer ‘co-design’ subject matter skills, connections to leaders, experts and networks in this area and ensure appropriate consumer engagement and input into quality improvement design and implementation. The function will support the mental health and addiction programme; this was initially a five-year programme commencing 1 July 2017, now extended to seven years until 30 June 2024.
The prosperous applicant will have in-depth and expert expertise of consumer engagement in mental health and/or addiction and working expertise of co-design principles. They will also have practice of working with healthcare consumers and providers to identify service issues and suggest improvements. The person will offer advice in this area to the Commission’s staff, advisors, clinical leads and work programmes and proactively work with the sector to promote service changes that increase consumer involvement in their care and healthcare performance and quality.
The person in this function will use their subject matter skills and personal practice to work in partnership with other team members to support the design, implementation and evaluation of quality improvement and patient safety programmes, specifically the mental health and addiction programme.
You will excel in working in partnership with multiple stakeholders with a high level of skill in problem solving, conceptual thinking and distilling ideas to inform decision-making. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are essential for this function.
The Commission is a stand-alone Crown entity with a Board responsible to the Minister of Health. The Commission is responsible for assisting providers across the whole health and discapability sector, both private and public, to improve service safety and quality and therefore results for all those who use these services in New Zealand.
