In this function you will join us in a 0.5FTE capacity, so life wont be all work and no play! Southland Hospital has 181 beds and is the regional referral and teaching and trauma centre for a population of 105,000 and a rural catchment area that stretches from Stewart Island to Te Anau and Queenstown. The Emergency Department has approximately 36,000 presentations per annum, with a modern open plan design that supports 21 beds (which includes 6 observations beds). You will join a reliable and collegial medical staffing team of 8 other FACEM Specialists working in a roster of 4 x 10 hour shifts per fortnight (3 clinical and 1 non-clinical) which your equitable share (pro rata to your FTE) of day, mid and evening weekday shifts and weekends. On call is also shared equitably and pro-rated to your FTE. The department is accredited for Registrar training with the Australian College of Emergency Medicine so teaching is a part of this function. The Registrars are supported by a Senior House agent Roster. Forget everything you thought you knew about Invercargill! There is space in abundance and you are surrounded by national parks and you will find yourself at the doorstep to the Catlins, alongside excellent access to Milford, Te Anau and Queenstown. Excellent schooling is available and free fees at the local Polytechnic! To be eligible for this position you will need to have completed your Fellowship with the Australian College of Emergency Medicine or be on the pathway to complete this in the near future.
