Our Partner Organisation – Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF) is the principal organisation providing regulatory and technical advice, training, and support for subsistence and commercial farmers, agri-processors, and exporters. With a vision towards self-sufficiency in food and increasing earnings generation in Samoan farming, the Ministry’s long terms goals include improved food security, improved commercial development and sustainable agricultural production. The Assignment The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has identified the need for support in the identification of policy issues and the formulation of evidence-located policies to guide and support the development of the agriculture and fisheries sector and in the developing of specific sub-sector policies (e.g. crops, livestock and fisheries). The provision of a volunteer for this assignment will help enable better knowledge and bigger confidence of the staff members in developing policies/strategies significant to sector. Currently, in-country trainings on policy areas coordinated by the Samoa Public Service Commission are insufficient to build capacity for the Policy and Planning staff of MAF. Therefore, hands-on application and guidance on how-to is required to actively build the capabilities of the staff.
