Become the Dean of our Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences
We are pursuing a visionary new Dean and Pro Vice-Chancellor to provide outstanding strategic, academic and people leadership abilities as the head of ourFaculty of Health and Environmental Sciences, guiding Information technology through a period of regeneration as we aim to be one of Australasia’s pre-eminent Health faculties. The Faculty already provides more degree educated clinical professionals to NZ’s health sector than any other medical or health school in the country, and this is the perfect time to join and make hugely significant academic and cultural impact. You will lead a team of 11 direct reports and approximately 580 (FTE) deeply passionate, committed Faculty staff who are focussed on strengthening and enhancing the student practice, and contributing significant high-quality knowledge advance and research in health, science and sports science. We’re open to exploration and adventurous approaches in what we’re prepared to try to take us to the next level – innovation and experimentation is embraced.
Key focus areas include:
   » Fostering excellence and support in faculty teaching, scholarship, research and collaboration across the schools and research centres. Building greater integrated academic practice with outward reach and focus, while increasing the number of faculty research active staff.
   » Establishing an inclusive, positive faculty culture that reflects the university’s values – and taking the required measures to achieve high staff engagement.
   » Increasing participation in Health courses from M?ori and Pacific students, and development of the M?ori and Pacific workforce in health, science and sports science and tertiary education.
   » Lifting the Faculty’s external profile and ensuring strong personal networking across New Zealand’s Health and Health related sectors.
   » Driving greater connection and collaboration across the university, including more open curriculum.
You will be a key part of the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive, the University’s Senior leadership abilities Team and a member of various University bodies such as Academic board. this function enables significant freedom and autonomy and embraces energy and ideas to make things happen. You will be recognised as an effective academic leader emphasising the importance of humanity in Health and education, critically displaying attributes of tolerance, empathy, trustworthiness, confidence and kindness.
Your capability to listen, connect, collaborate, communicate and influence will be critical – as is your level of strong respect for others coupled with an open and engaging attitude that is flexible to changing requirements. We welcome applications from senior academics of high standing with significant senior academic (or other significant) leadership abilities and staff management practice. We request candidates submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae (including full publication record) and a statement covering the following key selection criteria :
   » A record of distinguished academic achievement and research appropriate for appointment as a professor. A PhD (or equivalent) is expected.

   » Significant existing health sector connections and partnerships.
   » An knowledge and/or practice of the New Zealand health sector context.
   » A commitment to indigenous and equity issues, and knowledge of Tiriti o Waitangi and theM?ori Health Action Plan.
   » Significant practice leading key strategic changes demonstrating an excellent knowledge of cultural, operational and environmental change management.
   » Outstanding resilience, interpersonal, negotiation and diplomacy expertise, combined with a coaching and consultative approach to leadership abilities.
   » A brief summary of your interest and practice embracing innovation and experimentation in previous leadership abilities functions.

   » Start Date: The prosperous candidate would ideally be able to join AUT in the second half of 2021.
   » The prosperous candidate will secure a 5-year term to the function of Dean and Pro Vice-Chancellor (with potential for further extension as agreed by mutual consent), and a permanent position as a Professor.
   » A competitive remuneration package will be agreed with the prosperous applicant, commensurate with expertise and practice.
