Our Youth Justice Residence ‘Korowai Manaaki’ provides a safe, secure and supportive environment where rangatahi (young people) who have offended can make changes and get their lives back on track. In addition to maintaining secure facilities, we aim to help rehabilitate young offenders. Residential Youth Workers understand that the causes of offending are complex, and that prosperously dealing with young offenders, demands action beyond simple punitive measures. About the function: » Residential Youth Workers provide rangatahi with the confidence and expertise to become positive contributors to their wh?nau and communities » Guiding a behavioural change is a massive task and means our residential youth workers have many responsibilities, including: » Ensuring that a safe and secure environment is maintained for the benefit of the rangatahi, staff and the community » Supporting young offenders in their personal growth and rehabilitation with a focus on health, education, training and employment » Working with rangatahi to help them build and strengthen relationships with their wh?nau and communities and encouraging them to act on referrals to services About you We are seeking for enthusiastic people that want to be part of a team that is instrumental in turning young lives around. As a member of the youth justice residence team, you are working all day with rangatahi. You must have a passion for wanting to make a positive difference in their lives. To excel in this function a tertiary qualification in sport, health, education or youth work would be useful but life expertise such as carpentry, IT, culture and arts and sport expertise are invaluable. Our residence runs a 24/7 operation with staff working various shist times. The shifts are; morning shift (6.30am-3pm), afternoon shift (2.30pm-11.00pm) and night shifts (10.30pm – 7am) which also involves working weekends and public holidays when available on an on-call casual basis. Our ideal candidate, will have the following: » Great engagement expertise to overcome barriers » practice with conflict resolution » Cultural consciousness particularly around M?ori and Pacifica communities » capability to establish relationships with people from all walks of life » Good computer expertise, particularly with MS Office Software, report writing is part of this function » A current, and full driver’s licence and capability to work some weekend hours » practice in social services or working with at-risk youth is ideal, however candidates with transferrable life expertise are encouraged to apply » capability to be flexible with working hours If you will have established relationships and networks across the area and a good expertise of the key players to help you make a difference in the lives of youth then apply today!
