About our group and team
The Early Learning and Student Achievement Group (ELSA) sets the system-level learning for every child and student. Working between policy and customer facing functions, there is a significant political, stakeholder and public interest in the high performance of this group and the education curriculum and teaching workforce results we seek for New Zealand.
The Early Learning team supports children’s learning progress across the early years by focusing on strong curriculum implementation in early lea rning settings and across pathways from early childhood education and ng? k?hanga reo to schools and kura. The team uses evidence to design resources and tools for kaiako so that all children practice a rich curriculum, lgain and thrive. Information technology works with early learning stakeholders to co-design innovative approaches to achieve policy intentions, plans prosperous implementation strategies, and monitors to ensure a return on investment.
About this function
Reporting to the Manager, Early Learning, this fixed-term function will provide deep subject knowledge of early Literacy and/or Mathematics teaching and learning in the early years (birth to 6 years) located on Te Wh?riki to inform the Ministry’s strategies and design thinking. As an practiced early learning kaiako with a keen interest in these areas of the curriculum you will enjoy working with other thought leaders to develop joined up advice around local curriculum design and pedagogical practice that inspires and empowers learners.
About you
To be prosperous in the function, this person in this function will need the following:
   » A sound knowledge of Te Wh?riki and prosperous practice designing and implementing the curriculum as an early learning kaiako
   » Deep subject knowledge and passion for early Literacy and/or Mathematics teaching and learning in the early years (0-6 years)
   » Excellent written and verbal communication expertise
   » Effective relationship management expertise and interpersonal savviness, the capability to work collaboratively and to build trust and credibility at all levels
   » A sound knowledge the significance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how to support educational success for M?ori and Pacific peoples
   » The capability to plan and manage a project, navigating a complex and changing environment where there are multiple stakeholders
   » Knowledge of the early learning teaching and learning context is essential
   » practice in providing thought leadership abilities within a government context to improve system performance using sound analysis and evidence of what works is an advantage
