We are currently seeking a Team Leader, Investigations who will lead our M?ori investigations mahi. The Team Leader will work under the direction of the Head of Investigations, with significant Counsel Assisting to manage and lead the smooth running of the M?ori investigation. As part of this function, the Team Leader supervises the investigation team’s work, including interviewing witnesses, legal research, and drafting, evidence analysis, document management, and assists with the conduct of public hearings, w?nanga and community engagements. The Team Leader will also provide training, coaching and other forms of support to members of their team. As a Team Leader – Investigations, you will be responsible for the following: » Providing strategic leadership abilities of the investigation and management of the investigation team » Leading the development and oversight of the investigation plan, including superviseing evidence and information gathering » Leading to the overall Investigations strategy, plan and budget process for the investigations team » Providing high quality specialist legal advice and support to the Heads of Investigation and General Manager – Investigations, Associate Executive Director, Operations, Counsel Assisting, as well as to the Commissioners and other senior leaders, as requested » Ensuring the use of sound quality assurance methods to ensure all advice is of a high quality » Ensuring the analysis of evidence and information received by the inquiry considers all methods of evidence and information gathering (e.g., w?nanga, fono, engagements, etc) including through Relativity » Fostering a ‘one Royal Commission team’ culture, where staff understand the need for adaptcapability, flexibility and readiness for change expertise and practices Some key expertise and practice We are seeking for include (but not limited to) the following: » Hold a current practicing certificate from the New Zealand Law Society (or the capability to obtain a practicing certificate quickly) » 7+ years PQE » A well-developed knowledge of the function of the public service, machinery of government and the independent function of a Royal Commission » Strong written and oral communication expertise with a variety of audiences » Previous senior level practice in a legal setting, with the capability to work collaboratively in a highly complex environment and across professional disciplines » A well-developed knowledge of Te Tiriti of Waitangi and tikanga M?ori and how Information technology can be applied » practice or knowledge of issues and themes significant to State, Faith-located settings, M?ori, Pacific People’s or Deaf and Disabled People’s care settings would be advantageous About us The Inquiry is investigating the abuse and neglect of people in state and faith-located institutions between 1950 and 1999.
