Offer: Firearms Vetter:Maori Pacific JobsJob description:Job Description»located in Whangarei, Northland »Band D, Police Employee »Permanent, Full-Time »Multiple positions may be available »JR Nationally Advertised Vacancy About the function The purpose of Arms Safety and Control (ASAC) is to enable New Zealand to be a world leader in firearms safety through an effective regulatory and administrative approach to the Arms Act and Arms Regulations. The purpose of arms staff is to contribute to Our Business by being the safest country: one in which people are safe and feel safe by ensuring the safe use, possession and control of firearms. As an Arms Vetter you will directly support the District Firearms Licensing Team primarily by interviewing firearms license candidates and other persons, to determine an applicant's suitcapability to be issued with a New Zealand firearms license. Firearms Vetters' generally start duty in the house but have support at local police stations and from the District firearms team.They are required to travel within their area to visit license candidates and referees in their homes to assess the security setup of the firearm and suitcapability of the applicant to ensure they are reaching the required criteria. This will often involve some early evening work Key Accountabilities » Interviewing applicant and referees for a firearms licence. » Inspecting firearms security in private premises. » Inventory checks of firearms held by dealers and endorsement holders (eg, pistols and restricted weapons). » Consistent and efficient processing of applications and reporting on security of each license application. » As required, perform tasks to support the District Arms Office in regulatory functions and/or administration and operational responsibilities of the Arms licensing process. You will need: » Strong interview and report writing expertise. » capability to be a self-starter, work with minimal supervision, manage appointments and respond to takings in a timely manner. » A full driver’s license and reliable transport are essential as you will be required to use your personal vehicle for work purposes (costs will be reimbursed). You must also have full vehicle insurance. » Competency in the use of an i-phone and laptop (software used includes Microsoft Office 365; Word, Outlook and re-writable pdf forms). » capability to pass police background checks. » practice with firearms may be an advantage but is not necessary. » capability to understand firearms legislation/regulations. » Previous practice working in a regulatory environment may be an advantage but not necessary.
