The Commission has recently re-aligned its organisational structure to ensure Information technology can deliver its large work programme leading towards delivering our final report to the Governor-General in June 2023. As a result of this restructure, there are a number of new employment opportunities that have been created across the organisation.
Our work programme is large, and We are seeking to increase our capacity in our investigations team. We have a number of functions at different levels.
We are currently seeking solicitors with a range of practice and PQE. We are seeking to work with Solicitors (0-3 years PQE), Intermediate (3-7 years PQE) and Senior Solicitors (7 years+ PQE) to join our organisation to join our Investigations teams, and be responsible for providing legal advice and support to the Royal Commission. Solicitors
As a Solicitor, you will assist in undertaking legal research, analysis of information and evidence received by the Investigations team. You will also assist in the preparation of public hearings, including taking witness statements and identifying material for disclosure and use at public hearings, w?nanga, fono, and engagements.
Intermediate Solicitors
As an Intermediate Solicitor, you will be responsible for legal research, analysis and drafting, evidence analysis and document management, and contributing to the running of public hearings, w?nanga, fono and engagements. Working closely with your Team Leader, you will provide training and other support to the other members of the Investigations team.
Senior Solicitors
The Senior Solicitor works with the significant Team Leader, Head of Investigations and will lead parts of the investigation team’s work, including interviewing witnesses, legal research, and drafting, evidence analysis, document management and assists with the conduct of public hearing, w?nanga, fono and engagements. The Senior Solicitor will work closely with the Team Leader, Investigations and Head of Investigations to enhance the legal capcapability within the team, by sharing knowledge, and by providing guidance, support and constructive feedback.

expertise and practices:
The key expertise and practice We are seeking for include (but not limited to):
   » 0-2 years PQE for Solicitors, 3-7 years PQE for the Intermediate Solicitor functions and 7+ years PQE for the Senior Solicitor functions
   » knowledge of the function of the public service, the machinery of government and the independent function of a Royal Commission
   » Excellent written and oral communication expertise
   » practice and confidence in working with people from diverse backgrounds including M?ori, Pacific and people with disabilities, including tikanga M?ori and working in trauma-informed ways would be advantageous
   » Excellent interpersonal expertise and the capability to develop and maintain prosperous relationships within the Royal Commission and externally, including knowledge Survivors and their wh?nau needs and aspirations, and stakeholder motivations
   » Previous practice in a legal or litigation setting, with the capability to work collaboratively in a highly complex environment
