The function – Te mahi
The Hocken Librarian position reports directly to the University Librarian and is part of the Library Executive team, providing leadership abilities and vision to the Hocken Library staff and the wider library team.
The function holder will provide strategic leadership abilities and management for the iconic Hocken Collections to enable education and learning, research and the advancement and creation of knowledge by university staff and students and the wider public. The Hocken Librarian will enable M?ori and Pasifika communities to use the Hocken Collections through advocacy and partnership building.
The new Hocken Librarian will lead an exciting period of development. A University initiated review reported in January made an broad and far-reaching set of recommendations. A significant strand of these developments will enable the Hocken Collections to fully discharge its Te Tiriti responsibilities. The recommendations are designed to support the Hocken Collections become an outward-looking and deeply engaged heritage institution that effectively leverages off its relationships with the University Library and the University as a whole, a safe and vibrant location for M?ori and Pasifika users and community partners, and an important go-to site for digital research and engagement.

We are seeking for an practiced leader with proven track record operating at a strategic level.
To be prosperous in this function, you will need:
   » broad significant practice working in a senior function in a GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums), cultural or related organisation.
   » Proven leader with the credibility and capcapability to foster, create and maintain relationships of trust with iwi / M?ori across the country, including those located on Treaty settlements.
   » Track record of developing innovative solutions and practical implementations for strategic organisational and service change.
   » practice of managing and controlling substantial budget/resources/funding and an knowledge of financial management procedures.
significant postgraduate qualifications or equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training and/or practice are essential for this function. Broad and deep practice of Te Ao M?ori, including competency in Te Reo M?ori and leadership abilities in tikanga would be a significant advantage.
