Senior Developer - Rapid Deployment (RAILS)

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of New Zealand's largest Information technology departments and be the motivational force that empowers our people leaders to meet delivery goals and increase product capabilities and services to our clients.
The Improvement Systems and Technology (IST) team continues to grow capacity and capcapability and We are seeking for enthusiastic people to help us continue the journey; supporting and leading change in our agile fast-paced environment.

The Ruby on Rails team at the Ministry of Social Development requires additional senior full stack web developers. You might have practice working consistently across the stack or have specialised and now be looking to broaden your expertise.
You will be involved in a wide variety of development activities - front and back-end coding, code review, user practice and web accessibility. You'll also support our applications in production, and work with other teams to support and maintain the infrastructure our applications run on.
We are seeking for Somebody with the following expertise and practice
   » Have previously worked on a range of applications, maybe with different technologies but with a focus on Rails
   » Can understand the key concepts of object-oriented architecture and can create clean, well factored code
   » Have applied web accessibility and uscapability standards to your user interfaces and have a commitment to creating an accessible user practice
   » Previously written client-side JavaScript with jQuery, might have some practice with a client-side framework like React, and have worked with CSS frameworks like Bootstrap
   » You understand how structured data is stored in a relational database and can write complex queries using Active Record and SQL
   » Have previously worked with Ruby tools like Rake and Bundler, and might have written or maintained gem
   » Have patiently worked through complex user requirements and developed good relationships with product owners
   » Previously reviewed code and can provide well considered feedback
   » Are able to build relationships with stakeholders with excellent written and verbal communication expertise
   » Has the capability to work after hours if required
   » Previous practice coaching and mentoring other developers
About the Rails team
We look after a diverse range of about 20 applications. Some are ten years old; others have just been released. Some support the work of a single team; others are used by people in partner organisations and by members of the public. All contribute to the work that the Ministry does to support New Zealanders.
We aim to build high quality applications with a focus on maintaincapability. We don't chase the latest fashions but use mature frameworks. We are a professional and practiced team using modern software development and devops practices. We are serious about our work but try to laugh about everything else.
We are part of a large Information technology division within the Ministry but most of our applications stand alone. There is a fair amount of bureaucracy around us, but we have a good degree of autonomy within the team.

income range: $98,348.00 – $120,203.00
