The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provides national leadership abilities to New Zealand’s distributed emergency management system. NEMA’s primary focus is on the performance and capcapability of the emergency management system as a whole, across all hazards and all risks and the 4 Rs of risk reduction, readiness, response and recovery. We are going through an exciting phase of growth and there will be more opportunities with NEMA over the coming months.

function Purpose
Reporting to the Team Leader, Social and Community Resilience, this function will be instrumental in helping to develop, lead and design robust processes aimed at improving the results of our community resilience planning across national and regional levels.
You will utilise your broad networks to leverage relationships with key partners and continuing engagement and insights through fono and talanoa with our diverse Pacific communities and stakeholders.
Promoting a collaborative approach, you will provide high quality Pacific analytical advice and guidance on a range of processes, doctrines and guidelines to ensure quality practice is aligned with the aspirations of our diverse Pacific communities.
Skills and practice
   » Demonstrated evidence of engaging and building key strategic relationships with our partners within Pacific communities while making connections between NEMA and our Pacific partners
   » Confidence to apply your knowledge to assess the needs and aspirations of Pacific communities and translate these into the design and delivery of our planning
   » A track record in connecting service delivery, community consultation, planning and networking with Pacific communities
   » Continually improve the quality of our delivery ensuring our stakeholders are provided with timely, professional & quality leadership abilities
   » In depth knowledge of Pacific communities, models of practice and sensitive to the nuances of cross-cultural issues and how they will impact on our delivery
   » practice in working with Pacific peoples and supporting a government agency to build Pacific perspectives and methodologies into core agency business
   » Strong knowledge of Pacific methodologies and the differences between Pacific communities across New Zealand
   » Proven practice in dealing with Pacific protocol requirements and working with Pacific peoples at all levels including communicating with matai, church Ministers, Pacific academics, Pacific providers, Pacific women and young people.
   » Fluency in one or more Pacific languages is highly desirable.

   » A passion for working in the Pacific communities and with key providers to ensure we provide sound advice and can implement effective change
   » Confidence to apply your skills and knowledge across a breadth of inter-agency functions and disciplines helping us to build on our aspirations for Pacific communities
