Kai Uruhi / M?ori Technical Adviser

There is also a lot of exciting change ahead as we move rapidly towards co-governance and the establishment of M?ori Wards. To support us as we go forward We are seeking for an practiced Kai Uruhi / M?ori Technical Adviser to provide specialist environmental and resource management support and advice on council's legislative and cultural responsibilities to M?ori and the impacts of those obligations on regulatory functions. Through strong relationships with hap?/iwi this function will adopt a kanohi ki te kanohi (face to face) approach to having two way knowledge and seeking resolutions of issues, working towards a shared knowledge of the two world views in relation to legislative processes, Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) and other regulatory matters. Information technology will also seek to further develop the knowledge of the M?ori world view within council in relation to the services council provides, working alongside staff to enhance knowledge and application of RMA legislative provisions and other regulatory processes for t?ngata whenua.
The candidate prosperous in securing this newly developed function will also provide equivalent advice and support to Mana Whenua and Hap? to build capcapability and capacity of their organisations to engage in Council processes and decision making.
Success in this function can make a positive impact on your community and if that sounds like something you're keen to take on and you are able to demonstrate the following attributes then we’d love to hear from you:
   » practice working with iwi and hapu and M?ori communities preferably within Te Tai Tokerau
   » Strong working knowledge and knowledge of significant legislation including (but not limited to) Resource Management Act 1991 and Local Government Act 2002
   » knowledge of cultural competency frameworks and training
   » Confidence to deliver in a variety of environments where work may be carried out including marae, Council Chambers etc.
   » capability to influence others through development of strong working relationships and provision of clear well thought out advice
   » Proficiency in Te Reo M?ori and excellent knowledge of Tikanga M?ori (desire to lgain te reo as part of the position will also be considered)
   » Excellent knowledge of M?taurangaM?ori with the capability to communicate M?ori perspectives and values to non-M?ori audiences
   » Significant knowledge and practical application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in a local government setting
   » Hands on knowledge and practice of local government and its legislative responsibilities to M?ori
