Station Manager
Take the reigns as the Farm Manager - Station for the prestigious Tuaropaki Trust in Taup?. Reporting to the General Manager of Rural Operations you will be responsible for 1900ha and the management of large beef finishing, dairy support, ewe flock and lamb finishing operations, as well as sound financial planning and budgeting. This role is vital to the success of the farm, and you will have the opportunity to operate with a high level of autonomy and build a legacy of excellence.
Tuaropaki is an Ahu Whenua Trust established by the Maori Land Court with an asset base of over $1 billion. The Trust was formed by 297 families amalgamating their land blocks in the 1950's, at Mokai, 30km north-west of Taupo.
The Trust was an early adopter of geothermal power and now has a diverse portfolio including a geothermal power station, hydrogen energy production, engineering and drilling services, native plant nursery, sustainability centre, as well as dairy, beef, and sheep farming. The Trust also has investments in the USA and Canada. At the centre of this diverse organisation is a desire to drive prosperity for the owners and their families, accordingly there is a strong focus on whanau, the future and sustainability
Pastoral farming is a core activity of Tuaropaki Trust. The entire 3,410ha property produces beef and lamb, and milk. The Trust also operates a worm farm, Native Plant nursery, and honey production as part of its rural operations. Each part of the business interacts in some form with the other to assist in the goal of "sustainable practices".
The sheep and beef and dairy support component of the Trust's portfolio is operated on the 1900ha effective Station, which currently operates as a semi-intensive system.
Key responsibilities
   » Business planning -achieving farm targets in line with the business plan and identifying/mitigating operation risks.
   » Staff management - Provide strong leadership and development to a team of 5 staff.
   » Production and stock management - the planning and impletmentaion of large complex stock management plans, tracking weight progress and taking pride in animal husbandary with prioitised animal health
   » Health & Safety - Maintain a safe working environment and follow H&S guidelines
   » Financial and Asset management - All aspects of planning, budgeting and reporting in conjunction with GM Rural operations.
   » Natural resource management - create an environmental plan and annual fertiliser plan and assist with reporting for consents and ensure environmental and sustainability goals are met.
   » Record keeping - all herd records, animal health traceability records, Resource Management Act, staff leave, and all operational reports
What you'll need to be successful
   » A minimum of 5 years' experience as a Stock/Farm Manager.
   » In-depth knowledge and understanding of animal husbandry, soils, and pasture.
   » Experience with systems such as Farm IQ, True Test, My Balance and Excel.
   » To be a strong self-starter and drive for high standards.
   » Strong organisational, time, and team management skills.
   » A full and clean license with experience driving farm vehicles, including 2-wheelers and side by side.
