Te Kura Aronui – The School of Social Sciences is comprised of a number of programmes, including Anthropology, Environmental Planning, Geography, History, International Relations and Security Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Public Policy, Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work.
The function of the School of Social Sciences is to provide teaching and research in these subject areas. The School offers a range of papers in Social Sciences, at undergraduate, postgraduate and professional training levels. Teaching occurs on the Hamilton and the Tauranga Campuses of the University of Waikato.
Ng? k?rero m? te t?ranga – About the function
We seek a Postdoctoral Fellow to contribute to the Marsden funded project: ‘Breaking the cycle of shame and silence: a relational study of intersex practice.’
this function will involve conducting high quality research using qualitative, digital and participatory methods. The researcher will contribute to each stage of the research process, which will be developed in dialogue with people with variations in sex characteristics (intersex variations). The research will involve working closely with peer researchers in the intersex community and potentially takat?pui community.
This is an excellent opportunity for Somebody with a strong grounding in carrying out and publishing social science research and an interest in empowering and community-located research. Intersex, ira tangata, M?ori and Pasifika candidates are especially encouraged to apply.

The prosperous candidate will have the following:
   » A doctoral degree or similar level of practice and publications
   » A track record of carrying out high quality empirical social science research and producing academic publications
   » Strong expertise of research ethics and capability to engage well with a diverse range of people including working across cultures and across diversity in capability / health status
   » Evidence of excellent communication, collegiality and collaboration and capability to work independently on tasks
   » expertise of significant social science and methodological literature
   » Established networks within significant communities (including ira tangata, intersex, M?ori, Pasifika, takat?pui, rainbow).
   » expertise in digital media and/or digital research
   » capability to maintain a professional approach while under pressure
   » Self-motivation and a pro-active approach
   » Commitment to the University’s partnership with M?ori as intended by the Treaty of Waitangi

The income range for this position is $79,337 to $82,156 per year pro rata dependent on qualifications, expertise and practice.
