About this function:
This key leadership abilities function will be instrumental in continuing to shape the future of transport and roading infrastructure and services in the region. The prosperous candidate will provide effective team and technical leadership abilities and practical guidance, ensuring that the region's transportation systems are maintained, future-proofed, renewed, and upgraded in alignment with recognised activity and asset management practices so they are fit for purpose with the region's growing population, and support alternative modes of transport including cycling and walking.
Combine your technical competence with your staff management practice, to lead a team of transport professionals by fostering a collaborative and innovative working environment. You will develop and implement strategies, plans, and policies to enhance the transport infrastructure and services across Nelson City Council, through collaborating with key stakeholders to drive sustainable and future-oriented transport solutions.
You will apply your broad practice in asset and activity management practices to optimise the lifecycle of transportation assets and ensure efficient use of resources, using data-driven approaches to make informed decisions about asset maintenance, renewal, and upgrades. Underpinning this will be your ethos promoting and upholding transport safety measures and standards in alignment with the National Road Safety Strategy, thus driving initiatives to enhance road safety and reduce accidents on Nelson's roads.
this function will enable you to act as a trusted and credible advisor to a diverse range of stakeholders, including community groups, government agencies, and private sector organisations. You will possess an knowledge of public consultation and engagement methodologies by leading and facilitating engagement and consultation processes to gather feedback and ensure the community's needs are reflected in decision-making.
You will supervise the activity management programme of work through contracts related to transport activity, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and value for money, and collaborate with contractors and service providers to deliver high-quality results.
About you:
Showcase your exceptional communication expertise and collaborative interpersonal style, along with political savviness and capability to navigate the delivery of a wide array of transport solutions. To do this you will need a Bachelor's degree or higher in a significant field (e.g., Civil Engineering, Transport Planning), able to demonstrate leadership abilities practice, with a track record of inspiring and motivating teams to achieve strategic objectives. You will need proven public sector practice in transport activity management and asset management practices, along with strong practice in providing advice and guidance to diverse stakeholders and fostering positive relationships.
this function can flex to suit a Team Leader that is already operating at this level within a Consultancy or within another NZ Council or Government transport agency looking to escape to the regions, or a Senior Manager looking to return to a hands-on technical function with staff management responsibilities, or this is a great opportunity for a high performing practiced Transport Professional ready to take the next step in their career, enabling you to retain your technical competencies and develop your career with leadership abilities and mentoring.
