The Salvation Army's Addiction, Supportive Accommodation and Reintegration Services (ASARS) works with t?ngata experiencing issues in their lives which cause them to be marginalised from society, including t?ngata experiencing addictions to alcohol, drugs and gambling, t?ngata who are homeless or in need of emergency accommodation, and t?ngata being reintegrated into society after release from prison.
 
ASARS is committed to embedding a M?ori responsiveness and engagement strategy across all of its services, and has created this new position to work across their services in Christchurch.
 
The Pou ?rahi will provide strategic and operational cultural leadership abilities, tikanga M?ori support and advice to the Christchurch Bridge, Oasis, Addington Supportive Accommodation and Reintegration services. You will split your time each week between the different services.
 
You will develop strong relationships with iwi/hap?/M?ori organisations and strong consultative connections with ASARS leaders and staff, and M?ori Ministry leaders.
 
You will lead the implementation of Te ?h?k? (the M?ori Ministry Strategic Plan) and ensure it's significant for each centre. This includes the implementation of the national competency framework to support centre leadership abilities in building a culturally competent and responsive workforce across all centres and locations.
 
The Pou ?rahi will also support centre leadership abilities to implement Tiriti-located policies and to develop centre programmes, procedures and practices, focussed on the wellbeing and flourishing of t?ngata whenua.
 
The Pou ?rahi is line managed by the Pou ?rahi Kai Takawaenga // ASARS National Cultural Advisor, located in Auckland.
 
Person Profile :
   » Proficiency in te reo rangatira me ?na tikanga
   » Strong knowledge and practice of Te Ao M?ori, tikanga and m?tauranga M?ori
   » Exceptional written and oral communication expertise, in both Te Reo M?ori and English
   » Practices whakawhanaungatanga and has good interpersonal expertise
   » Demonstrates a strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, with a strong knowledge of the bicultural relationship between M?ori and the Crown, between t?ngata whenua and t?ngata Tiriti, while working well in a diverse, multicultural environment
   » capability to teach/facilitate M?ori cultural competency training/mentoring
   » The capability to problem solve, use initiative and display sound judgement
   » Proactive, with good personal management expertise to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
   » A commitment to the mission and values of The Salvation Army
   » A full driver's licence and your own vehicle (you will be reimbursed for work-related travel)
   » practice working within a large non-government/community organisation focussed on recovery, health and wellbeing would be advantageous
