The Chief Ombudsman works with his staff to help New Zealanders in their dealings with government agencies. The focus is on handling complaints against government agencies, undertaking investigations and inspections, and encouraging good administration. The Chief Ombudsman is independent and impartial, with the goal of fairness for all.

The Learning and Agency Development team is a new team, created in response to the broad volume and breadth of learning and guidance needed now and in the future. The team is responsible for both internal and external learning programmes focused on operational practices, and seeks to review, streamline and lead continuous improvement of those programmes to forge a learning model that is fit for the future. The team also delivers agency guidance activities and interventions, including responding to advice requests and developing guides and case notes to help inform the work of public sector agencies.

This a rare opportunity to join a new team and help drive the implementation of a future operating model for staff learning and agency development.
We require a passionate and practiced learning and development professional to partner with our business to create high-quality internal and external learning programmes and pathways.
If you’re passionate about creating great learning practices, we’d love to hear from you.
You will work closely with the Manager Learning and Agency Development, your direct team members, as well as collaborate across other teams all over the office to bring the team’s vision to life.

To be prosperous in this function, ideally you will have:
   » significant practice in adult learning disciplines providing specialist strategic advice, preferably in a complex organisation
   » sound influencing, collaboration and negotiation expertise and practice
   » strong learning needs analysis and learning design expertise and practice
   » a strong business performance improvement focus and connected expertise
   » strong, current knowledge and knowledge of contemporary learning and development practices and tools
   » excellent relationship management expertise, with a strong customer focus
   » consciousness of, and practice with, project management and change management expertise and methodologies
   » a practical and pragmatic approach to achieving quality results and mutually beneficial results
   » the capability to work under pressure, set priorities and manage tight timelines
   » strong verbal and written communication
   » a continuous improvement mindset, welcoming opportunities to improve your approach
   » have an knowledge of M?ori, discapability and other cultural and human rights concepts, including the Treaty of Waitangi and apply these to your design
   » have a demonstrated track record in a similar position
   » have a significant qualification and/or equivalent practice.
