The T?matak?kiri r?p? work to ensure the Ministry is set up for long term success, with systems and processes that enable us to deliver on our Tiriti obligations, as well as our aspirations and commitment to work with M?ori to co-produce policy. Our goal is to see the Treaty of Waitangi reflected in environmental decision making.

M? te t?nga |About the function
Reporting to the r?p? Deputy Secretary as their ?right hand’, we are calling for a Chief Advisor with broad skills and thought leadership abilities in te ao M?ori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi to provide strategic leadership abilities and advice on advancing M?ori Crown relationships, particularly as they relate to M?ori policy advice and Treaty Settlement obligations and expectations.
this function has a significant focus on superviseing, embedding and monitoring capcapability and skills frameworks to support the Ministry in our M?ori Crown Relations performance. You will work with and influence business planning across the Ministry’s work programmes, instigate and maintain key government relationships and lead regional engagements to ensure we address the aspirations and needs of M?ori/Iwi for the betterment of te taiao, and the needs of future generations.
You will be influential in shaping the Ministry as a public sector leader in the rights, interests and recognition of M?ori staff, through chairing MfE’s M?ori and Pasifika network, leading our annual R?p? M?ori symposium, advising on recruitment and retention strategies, and working closely with internal people leaders and People & Capcapability colleagues to ensure that as an organisation we are confident and coordinated in our continuing engagement with M?ori.
The location for this function is flexible which means you can work anywhere in New Zealand and there is an option to work in the house. To be prosperous in the function of KaitohutohuWhakarae, we are calling for a mix of the following:
   » M?ori cultural and behavioural specialist with a dual competence (western and indigenous philosophies) and the capability to apply a M?ori worldview/paradigm to one’s work;
   » Deep knowledge of and commitment to the articles and principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi;
   » Competence in tikanga M?ori, te Ao M?ori and kaupapa M?ori frameworks, with the capability to korero te reo M?ori (business appropriate);
   » Superior interpersonal and engagement skills - is practiced and credible in growing collaborative and reciprocal relationships with tangata whenua and key stakeholders;
   » High-level of knowledge, and/or direct practice, navigating the machinery of government, especially the journey of M?ori public servants;
   » capability to operate with a high degree of accountcapability, judgement and political nous;
   » Highly astute – an auditor, guardian, safekeeper approach to your mahi.
