The University of Auckland Waipapa Taumata Rau is seeking an inspirational leader with outstanding interpersonal expertise and commitment to academic pursuits to become our Dean,Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences(FMHS).
The Dean will be ambitious about the transformative contribution we can make to hauora – physical, mental, spiritual and family health – across generations in Aotearoa, and through our research to global communities. Visionary and bold in their thinking, the Dean will provide leadership abilities to enhance our reputation as New Zealand's leading Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. The Dean will demonstrate a sound knowledge of the challenges of leading a multi-disciplinary, research-led, academic faculty in a highly competitive international environment and the positive impacts that come as a result. A true leader, the Dean will recognise that people are the Faculty's greatest asset. The Dean will continue to foster a culture of collegiality in which all staff are encouraged and enabled to achieve at the highest level.
An accomplished relationship builder, the Dean will demonstrate a commitment to cross-faculty, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and a track record of leading significant engagement across both health and tertiary sectors. Aotearoa New Zealand is undergoing large scale health sector reform, making Information technology essential for the Dean to partner with government, policy, delivery and health providers, to activate the knowledge gained through our research, education and clinical training, and advocate for the right voices to be heard when creating and shaping such reform.
Candidates who are not already familiar with New Zealand's bicultural context will be expected to engage with M?ori culture and systems of knowledge and to develop a sound knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and New Zealand's place in the Pacific. The Dean will demonstrate the insight, practice and commitment to provide continued leadership abilities to equity and inclusion.
Reporting to the Provost, the Dean will ideally bring an international research reputation and academic credentials. They will balance the function of being the Faculty's leader and greatest advocate, while contributing to the success of the University of Auckland Waipapa Taumata Rau, as a key member of the Academic leadership abilities team. The Dean will grow the Faculty's philanthropic base and manage the relationships with an existing portfolio of major donors, including individuals, trusts and corporates.
