This is a key leadership abilities function in the team, working closely with the senior policy manager. About our group Education is key to our well-being, social cohesion, and citizenship. We provide strategic policy advice to enable an inclusive education system that contributes to the expertise and knowledge needed by people for social, cultural, economic and environmental wellbeing. You’ll join our policy community in Te Puna Kaupapahere – a group with a strong policy culture that works on issues affecting a huge system that directly impacts the lives of all New Zealanders across early learning, schooling and tertiary. About the function We need a Chief/Principal Policy Analyst who has a strong background in legislative and policy development. The team leads and coordinates all Bills that go through the House as well as leading policy work as Information technology relates to governance and accountcapability arrangements, particularly within the schooling system. The team has a key function in working with other teams across Te Puna Kaupapahere (policy group) and elsewhere in the Ministry on policy and legislative proposals relating to early learning, schooling and tertiary. The main focus of the function over the next few years is leading the policy development of a new framework to strengthen M?ori Medium and Kaupapa M?ori Education, with significant legislative proposals being considered. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver on the Government’s goal to have 30 per cent of ?konga M?ori within M?ori Medium and Kaupapa M?ori Education in early learning and schooling by 2040 – where we know ?konga M?ori have better education results. this function would suit Somebody with a can-do attitude and capability to operate and lead in a fast-paced environment responding to Ministerial priorities and direction. Information technology would also be of benefit (but not essential) to have some practice working in M?ori-Crown partnerships and policy advice. You’ll play a key function in supporting the senior policy manager to shape and deliver the team’s work programme. You will be able to work flexibly across the varied work of the team, building and maintaining a breadth of knowledge to be able to step in when needed. This includes superviseing projects within the team and helping to ensure the right balance of ownership and support for junior colleagues.
