The T?matak?kiri r?p? work to ensure the Ministry is set up for long term success, with systems and processes that enable us to deliver on our Tiriti obligations, as well as our aspirations and commitment to work with M?ori to co-produce policy. Our goal is to see the Treaty of Waitangi reflected in environmental decision making.

M? te t?nga | About the function
The Ringatohu / Director of T?matak?kiri leads five functions and six multi-disciplinary teams with significant responsibility – from M?ori Science and Data, and M?ori Rights and Interests, to Te Tiriti settlements and negotiations.
this function is at the forefront of accelerating the Ministry’s strategic framework to ensure that we embed processes and systems that bring the Treaty of Waitangi and te ao M?ori into everyday environmental decision-making. The right person will bring significant M?ori knowledge and thought leadership abilities, skills in stakeholder engagement and influencing, and a systematic approach to direct the Divisions strategic leadership abilities of M?ori capcapability and engagement, as well as support the wider Ministry to continuously advance our longer-term system and stewardship goals as a Tiriti partner.
Your confidence and credibility as a senior people leader means you will understand the importance of our people, encourage diversity in thought, pave the way forward in our kaupapa, and enable us to succeed as a collective. Leading across multiple disciplines and programmes of work, your skills in providing judgement and direction in an operating context that is often ambiguous and complex, and politically charged, will be critical for success.
The Director function reports to the significant Deputy Secretary and is a member of the Ministry’s Senior leadership abilities Team. Information technology is expected that Directors at MfE will be flexible to work across other areas of the Ministry as business or development needs require.

   » practice in leading the strategic and business direction of a directorate, including business planning;
   » A credible people leader with practice leading large and diverse teams and proven success in coaching and developing managers;
   » Superior communication, networking and stakeholder engagement skills - advises and influences with impact;
   » System thinking and an agile approach with a desire to make a lasting difference;
   » knowledge of and the capability to navigate the machinery of government.
