The primary purpose of the Prison Director is to ensure optimal delivery of all prison related services and continuous improvement initiatives whilst balancing care, security, health, education and rehabilitation imperatives for the people we manage.
this function is responsible for the leadership abilities of all day to day operational functions andthe pro-active identification and management of risk across all facets of the operation to promote the safety of all people we manage.
The development of effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders is key for success, with an emphasis on teamwork and co-operation between all parties. The journey of a person we manage does not stop at the prison gates so a focus on ensuring they can reach their potential on release is also a key aspect of the Director’s function, in conjunction with Community Corrections leaders, iwi and other partners.

By demonstrating visible leadership abilities in all aspects of your function, you will have the courage, passion and determination to deliver outstanding results, raising the bar for quality practice. Having a deep knowledge, appreciation for, and genuine interest in the issues the men we manage face, is essential for success.
As a key member of the Regional leadership abilities Team, reporting to the Regional Commissioner, you will need to demonstrate significant practice at a senior level with exemplary relationship expertise as you will be in partnership with agencies and other key stakeholders to ensure optimum results.

   » Proven capcapability at both a strategic and operational level.
   » Exceptional communication and relationship expertise with an capability to influence results
   » A focus on lifting cultural capcapability, driving innovation & continuous improvement initiatives
   » An in-depth knowledge of the factors impacting on rehabilitation & reintegration for people who have committed offences.
   » The commitment to develop a strong leadership abilities team dedicated to achieving results & displaying our core values
   » A high level of knowledge and anticipation of political and reputational risk
   » An in-depth knowledge of risk management processes and compliance requirements
   » Demonstrated capability to operate effectively within Te Ao M?ori and Te Ao Hurihuri and display core expertise (Te Reo, Tikanga, and an knowledge of the Tiriti o Waitangi)
