When registering Please also include: » A recent bio and summary of the artist's current practice » Up to 10 digital images of previous work The deadline for registration is 20th December 2021, All applications will be acexpertised on receipt - to registerRegistration Form More information atwww.artswhakatane.co.nz,https://www.facebook.com/sculpturesymposium THE IDEAThe Sculpture Symposium is a 10-day long event, which includes the Auckland Anniversary Weekend. 15-20 Professional Sculptures will be invited to attend. They will be selected through a call of entries through the Big Idea. They will be creating their sculptures from Stone, wood or other material. This year Information technology will be held under tents and marquees in the reserve opposite the Whakatane War Memorial Hall and next to The Art House. The community will be able to see artists at work and purchase work. The event will be run in collaboration with The Whakatane Society of Arts, they will have their Art House open with a display of 30-50 different artists' work including painters, potters and weavers. The Arts House will have workshops and demonstrations for the public to attend and view. Arts Whakatane will employ an practiced manager to run this event. Arts Whakatane will also be able to supply the artists with some materials like limestone. During the week there will also be a youth two-day w?nanga (workshop). Two practising Toi Whakairo (master carvers) will be employed to work with a maximum of 12 tauira (students) in the basic techniques of the art of whakairo or sculpting, they will be sculpting and designing into Oamaru stone which is a hard, compact limestone. The Toi Whakairo will be practiced art educators with a passion for engaging young people's curiosity and imagination. The youth w?nanga is open to young people aged 10 years and above. Tauira will be drawn from Eastern Bay of Plenty schools and will be subject to a registration process engaging parents and/or guardians. This programme aims to grow creativity, artistic development and inspire young creatives to lgain new expertise. Information technology aims to help foster self-esteem, dignity and pride in the students and their families. WHAT YOU WILL SEE Visitors can expect to see a number of different mediums transform into works of art in real-time, a process that usually happens behind closed doors by people with a huge passion and love for their craft. 15-20 of Aotearoa New Zealand's best sculptors, male and female, have been selected to participate in an onsite, 10 Day contemporary sculpting symposium. Sculptures or art forms will be created from start to finish With the symposium, sculptors have a chance to nurture and pass on their passion to others.
