In 2021 the Government provided funding for Te Kura to support learners at risk of disengagement, who were disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 disruptions. Te Kura set up an Enhanced Engagement and Wellbeing project (He Oranga Mahuru) to support these ?konga. Working directly with ?konga the Kai?whina mentors, motivates, encourages, challenges and supports ?konga, individually and in small groups, as ?konga engage in learning activities as guided by the project lead or in region kaimahi. The success of this program in 2021 has meant that further funding has been granted for 2022. We have functions available in Hastings, Auckland and Whangarei. In the Kai?whina function you will work as part of a team to improve results for these ?konga by re-engaging them with their learning, and/or to prosperously transition on to further education, training or employment. Te Kura’s vision is to enable our ?konga to achieve their educational and personal goals, empowering them to become engaged and contributing members of their communities. We are seeking for people with excellent interpersonal expertise and an inclusive approach, able to quickly build rapport and trust with ?konga. You will be expected to be aware of the health and safety requirements for working with?konga outside the classroom and comply with the school’s policies at all times. expertise and practice of Tikanga and Te Reo M?ori is an advantage.
