Job description

Rotorua, New Zealand

Achieve work life balance in Rotorua!!

We have a 0.7 FTE vacancy for an enthusiastic Emergency Medicine Clinical Fellow to join the Department of Emergency Medicine at Rotorua Hospital for a period of 12 months.

We are seeking for a senior registrar or junior FACEM keen to work in our culturally rich location. We are pursuing person that can bring a senior skill set to our roster and who wishes to pursue research in the field of Maori Health or Health Care Equity. The research will be applicable to Emergency Medicine and of benefit to the community within Aotearoa. This may be a new research proposal or we can connect the prosperous applicant with existing research. We will offer a specialized well supported roster which does not involve night shifts or on call work. Information technology will involve mainly weekend work but this will leave the week free for research time or time to explore all the region has to offer. We will offer one full day each week paid non-clinical time and CME to support additional research activity.

We are a friendly team of doctors and nurses working with a wide variety of adult and paediatric clinical presentations in our 25 bed unit. Our annual census is approximately 37,500 attendances per annum. Rotorua has all secondary hospital specialties with tertiary level care provided at Waikato hospital. This is a growing Emergency Department which is focused on evolving to meet the challenges of our population whilst developing as a regional training center. The population we serve is 35% Maori and we are committed to improving inequity and aligning with the Manaaki Mana strategy laid out by ACEM.

Rotorua Hospital is a District General Hospital in one of the most spectacular regions of New Zealand. You will have the opportunity to balance compensateing Emergency Medicine practice with an amazing life style.

Rotorua is in the centre of the North Island surrounded by lakes and mountain bike tracks - yet only an hour from the spectacular east coast beaches. The beautiful lake Taupo is also an hour away with

Mount Ruapehu offering skiing, tramping, fishing and water sports.
