We are seeking for four (4x) Poutoko Ture M?t?mua (Senior Solicitors) to support Te Puna R?ia (the Legal team) at Te Tai ?hanga (the Treasury).
We are seeking for Senior Solicitors with practice across a wide variety of practice areas, including any of the below (it is not necessary to have practice in all areas listed):
   » expertise (or a commitment to build expertise) in Te Tiriti o Waitangi, He Wh?inga Amorangi (Crown-M?ori capcapability framework) and te reo M?ori
   » practice in commercial law and/or corporate law
   » practice in banking law or advising on financial transactions
   » practice in public law and advising on administrative decision-making powers

Te Tai ?hanga is the government’s lead economic and financial advisor. Our vision is to be a world leading Treasury working towards higher living standards for New Zealanders.
Te Puna R?ia (the Legal team) contributes to the Treasury’s vision by providing robust and solutions-focused legal advice to effectively manage legal risk and implement projects. The Legal team works closely with policy and operational teams across the department to advise on a range of public and commercial law issues.
The Poutoko Ture M?t?mua (Senior Solicitor) has a strategic level of responsibility in the Te Puna R?ia to provide general legal advice and services for Te Tai ?hanga
Te Puna R?ia (the Legal team)’s work is very diverse and you will support internal clients on a wide variety of issues. The type of work you will typically do includes:
   » Provision of oral and written advice on various matters, in particular, including:
   » Legislation that the Treasury administers
   » The activities and statutory obligations of Ministers, the Treasury, Crown-owned companies and Crown entities
   » Commercial transactions and advice to support the New Zealand Capital Markets Directorate and New Zealand Export Credit functions within the Treasury
   » The Crown-M?ori relationship and its implications for the Treasury’s work.
   » Advising on general contracting and procurement processes
   » Assisting on a wide variety of legal matters significant to Te Tai Ohanga’s mahi

Te Puna R?ia work right across Te Tai ?hanga’s work programme on a wide variety of legal issues. We are pursuing Poutoko Ture M?t?mua (Senior Solicitors) across a wide variety of practice areas:
Essential qualifications / practice:
   » Law degree
   » Hold, or eligible to hold, a practicing certificate
   » practice providing legal advice on complex matters
   » Effective and proactive communication, stakeholder management and collaboration expertise
   » expertise of Te Tiriti o Waitangi/ the Treaty of Waitangi and / or a commitment to build Te Tiriti competency and te Reo M?ori capcapability
   » A strong focus on client service, problem-solving and solutions
   » The capability to play a function coaching and supervising more junior team members (including at times peer reviewing their advice)
   » availability to get involved in a variety of work
   » capability to meet the criteria required to hold a NZ Government security clearance
   » At least five years’ practice as a lawyer
Additional othersignificant technical practice would include (it is not necessary to have all of the below):
   » practice in public law and advising on administrative decision-making powers
   » practice in commercial law and/or corporate law
   » practice in banking law or advising on financial transactions
   » expertise working with government processes and the parliamentary system for the passage of legislation
   » Familiarity with the provisions of the Public Finance Act 1989 and the underlying policy and practical applications of the Act
