Korero mo te turanga – About the function
Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington is seeking a Pasifika Engagement Adviser in a fixed-term,full-time position, to cover for a staff member taking parental leave.This will be located in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences,in a team within the Office of the adjunct Vice-Chancellor Pasifika.
The key responsibility of the function is to support Pasifika students at the University through:
   » delivering high quality academic and holistic support programmes aimed at retaining Pasifika students
   » delivering events that support Pasifika student community building
   » actively working, and collaborating, with faculty staff to support the academic achievement of Pasifika students
   » the capability to apply Pacific cultural practices in the engagement and support work.

You will be a highly motivated student-focused individual who has excellent people relationship expertise. this function requires individuals with cultural competence, and a good temperament.
Your strong self-management expertise will mean you relish working autonomously, as well as contributing positively to the high performing Pasifika Student Success team. The capability to demonstrate an knowledge of the challenges that Pasifika students face in undertaking tertiary study is essential, along with initiative and a good work ethic.
Key Requirements:
   » A significant degree in Humanities or Education is highly desirable.
   » Sound knowledge of Pacific cultures
   » Knowledge of the tertiary environment and issues relating to Pasifika students
   » capability to build strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders
   » A good knowledge of data, and evidence-located decision making.
