About our group and team
We use information, insights and service design functions to help the three Te Mahau frontline groups design and deliver services for our sector. We service and support the frontline groups and play an integration function between the enabling functions and our frontline services.
Our group provides nationally consistent service design, practice guidance and systems to support the integrated teams led by Directors of Education providing flexible and responsive services.
We deliver national resourcing functions, including inclusive learning support, and national regulatory functions.
Our group consists of what was previously National Office Sector Enablement and Support (SE&S), Parent Information and Community Intelligence (PICI) and Evidence, Data and Knowledge (EDK) teams.
About this function
The Team Leader supports the Manager ESOL, Migrant, Refugee and International Education to deliver on migrant and refugee priorities in the regions. The Team Leader will operate with a high degree of judgement and knowledge of complexity and managing risks to ensure all activities are delivered to a high standard.
The Team Leader is expected to manage a team of Senior Advisors Refugee and Migrant Education located in regions all over Aotearoa New Zealand. The Team Leader will coordinate and implement initiatives in schools and early learning centres to support former refugee and migrant students to achieve prosperous education results. this function will also support staff in Te Mahau (Education Service Agency) to be more responsive to refugee and migrant background students, families, and communities.
About you:
   » Excellent oral and written communication and a strong results focus
   » practice of leading and motivating a team
   » Exceptional relationship management and organisational expertise having the proven capability to bring diverse groups of people together
   » Excellent knowledge of the aspirations and needs of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) students, their families and communities
   » Good working knowledge of the education system in New Zealand, especially of the compulsory sector
   » practice in leading the design and delivery of initiatives that meet the needs and aspirations of learners from refugee and migrant families and communities, with proven results
   » The capability to work collegially with other managers and staff at all levels in Te Mahau (the Education Agency)
   » Knowledge of machinery of government and capability to navigate organisational structures and processes
