About our group and team
The Ministry’s procurement functions sits across both the Business Enablement and Support (BE&S) and Education Infrastructure Service (EIS) groups. The Corporate Services Procurement Team resides within the BE&S group and delivers well-connected, efficient and effective procurement services across the Ministry that enable our people to do their best work every day.
About this function
We have an opportunity for a Commercial Manager in the Corporate Services Procurement team. The Commercial Manager provides commercial management, guidance and oversight to enhance commercial activities across significant corporate agreements held by the Ministry. You will work collaboratively with the other procurement functions, internal and external stakeholders, and wider Minist ry staff, to build and maintain sustainable long-term supplier relationships which deliver quality results for the Ministry.
Your key priorities will include:
   » working with internal stakeholders to support and lead (as appropriate), negotiations, dispute resolution, resolving performance issues or where commercial/supplier management skills is required
   » working with other commercial management teams across the wider procurement function to ensure that supplier management activities are implemented and undertaken, and that related supplier management initiatives are aligned with the Ministry’s strategic direction, and All-of-Government strategy and standards
   » ensuring that the relationships the Ministry has with strategic suppliers foster a cooperative, respectful and productive working relationships
   » owning and influentially nurturing relationships between stakeholders and suppliers to identify and implement value add
   » leading and/or contributing to projects where commercial relationship skills is required.
The income range for this function is $131,287 – $151,709.
About you
The capability to drive change through influence as well as great relationship skills are the key attributes needed for this function. You will be interested in gathering, analysing and presenting information, with broad practice in identifying and managing risk. You will have strong analytical, numerical and written skills with good attention to detail and the capability to interpret and draw conclusions and own decisions.
You will also offer the following:
   » Highly developed influencing, commercial/contract negotiation practice including practice in managing high value and/or politically sensitive services
   » Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information to a variety of audiences
   » A customer focus and are dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external stakeholders
   » Knowledge or practice of contract and supplier performance management systems and processes
   » An capability to operate both strategically and commercially, working with external providers and internal Ministry stakeholders to manage risk, maximise value, ensuring all parties get the best outcome
   » The capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and t?ngata whenuatanga
The following attributes are desirable:
   » Full Membership of CIPS (Level 6/MCIPS)
   » Knowledge of the full procurement lifecycle
