The University of Otago is renowned for its residential college communities with 15 differing colleges supporting thousands of first-year students on their tertiary journey.
Te Rangih?roa is the newest and most modern of these colleges. Scheduled for completion late 2023, Information technology will receive its first 450 residents at the start of the 2024 academic year. Named after the University of Otago’s first M?ori medical graduate, Te Rangih?roa/Sir Peter Buck, the name was gifted to the University by Te Rangih?roa’s iwi, Ng?ti Mutunga.
Ng?ti Mutunga envisions that like a wellspring deep within Papat??nuku (the earth) quenches the thirst of weary travellers, so too will the college provide sanctuary for students on their educational journey.
The values and mana of this extraordinary individual are woven all over the building, from the design and layout of the living spaces to the artwork and indigenous plantings that surround the building.
Designed to high standards of energy efficiency and sustaincapability, Te Rangih?roa is a five-star Green Star building and provides an inspiring environment where tauira can reach their full potential.
The function/Te mahi
The College Warden/Tautiaki is responsible for the effective and efficient provision of a collegiate practice for its residents and wider connected community.
The primary function is to support our residents to reach their highest academic potential, while also providing opportunities for residents to practice cultural, community and personal development.
During non-academic use, the College Warden has responsibility for the promotion of the college facilities, or the redeployment of its staff, to support the service of the Division and the generation of additional earnings streams within the Division.
We seek to appoint the new Warden/Tautiaki before the college is open. The function will initially centre around the operational stand up of the college, staff training and resident selection for 2024.

We seek an practiced senior leader with proven success in managing staff, residential academic communities, and building assets.
Our ideal candidate will:
   » Have competency in Te Reo M?ori me ?na tikanga.
   » Have practice working with young adults in an education setting.
   » Be professionally and personally resilient and capable of handling (sometimes) difficult and complex situations.
   » Have demonstrated leadership abilities, management and organisation expertise.
   » Be able to execute effectively and professionally in a complex and challenging environment, including mental health and resident wellbeing related incidents.
As part of the Campus and Collegiate Life Services Divisional leadership abilities team, you will also assist the wider division in projects and support. capability to influence and negotiate in a practical way is important.
A tertiary qualification is essential and practice in the tertiary sector would be a distinct advantage.

This is a full-time, permanent live-in position and as such you will be required to reside in accommodation which is provided by the University.
The remuneration package includes on-call tasks. An allowance will be paid to offset the cost of accommodation.
You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for this function.
