We have a great opportunity for a talented policy professional to join the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. We’re looking for a principal advisor, to join a dynamic team navigating some of New Zealand’s most pressing policy challenges and fostering system evolution.

The National Security Policy Directorate (NSPD) sits within the National Security Group, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. Its function is to provide policy and thought leadership abilities on national security, intelligence, cyber policy and risk and resilience matters. The Directorate’s teams include Security and Intelligence Policy, Cyber Policy, Strategy and Engagement. We are a collaborative team working on cross-cutting projects and offer a dynamic, agile environment for our policy professionals.
This exciting function sits within the RCOI Response team in the National Security Group. The prosperous applicant will be responsible for supporting the effective inter-agency coordination of the government’s response and ensuring that the response Lead Official (DCE National Security Group) and the Lead Coordination Minister are supported in their respective response oversight and governance functions. The position is full-time, permanent and Wellington-located, although we may be able to be flexible for the right person. Secondments from other government agencies are welcomed.

Eligibility requirements : To be eligible for this position, you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively, you must hold NZ Permanent Residence or hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.
You must also be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15-year checkable background in countries where significant and reliable checks can be undertaken. Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.
The income range, including superannuation is $134,000 – $160,000.
