About us
Education Infrastructure Service (EIS), a part of the Ministry of Education, manages the Crown’s second largest property portfolio of around 2,100 schools with a book value of $19.6 billion, the largest payroll in the country, and transportation of over 100,000 students to and from school each day.
These challenges are underpinned by the delivery of strong health and safety practices.
About the function
This is a function that will enable the Ministry of Education to positively influence health and safety performance across the property and construction contracting chains (internally and externally) to achieve high levels of capcapability and to meet legislative requirements.
You will operate within the EIS Health and Safety team who provide support, direction and delivery of the EIS H&S system and practice framework. You will work closely with the Manager – Health and Safety and other Health and Safety Team Advisors for property, construction and school transport activities.
Your key priorities will include as follows:
   » Providing high quality specialist practice advice to EIS staff, consultant support to service providers (where necessary) to help ensure all EIS activities meet the requirements for current and future legislation and regulatory requirements connected with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 plus connected Regulations, Codes of Practice and other guidance. This will include information in the form of fact sheets, checklists and processes
   » Development of processes that will support effective H&S practices across construction and property projects that will meet or exceed regulatory requirements
   » Incident management including reviews of notifications and undertaking analysis and identification of trends and priorities from incident investigations and audits
   » Verification that incident corrective actions are complete
About you
With a proven health and safety background relative to the construction and property sectors, you will have significant practice and qualifications and a passion for providing high quality advice and practical.
To be prosperous, you will have the following attributes:
   » Strong knowledge and practical practice in applying H&S practices within a construction project environment
   » Capable of working in a fast-paced, group environment. A calm demeanour and the capability to think operationally and tactically to deliver a high quality and standard of work
   » The capability to influence all levels of management and staff and to have recognised ‘mana’ across all contracted service providers
   » Demonstrable enthusiasm and desire to improve H&S practices and standards
