We’re looking for Registered Psychologists and Intern Psychologists who want to make a difference to support awesome education results for students in the Wellington Region.
About our group and team
Learning Support is a critical part of the Ministry of Education. We are charged with leading the education sector in ensuring that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education.
Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, wh?nau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and M?ori medium settings as well as other agencies to help maximize learning results and promote social inclusion.
We work out of offices located in Lower Hutt, Masterton, Porirua and Otaki. If you have always wanted to work in a transdisciplinary and highly supportive team environment, one of these functions would be appropriate for you.
About these functions
We are pursuing candidates who have demonstrable knowledge, practice, and expertise in supporting children and young people with severe and challenging behaviours and students with high and complex learning needs. Interest and practice in working with children across the 3 to 15-year-old age range is desirable. candidates applying for the function must have significant special education qualifications and current New Zealand Psychologist Board registration. Applications from Psychologist Interns who are about to complete their postgraduate qualification are welcome. If prosperous, their appointment will be dependent on their final exam results as well as their registration with the New Zealand Psy chologist Board.
As a Psychologist you will play a critical function in our region’s Learning Support team by:
   » identifying patterns or contributing factors that may be influencing learning, wellbeing and behaviour
   » enhancing inclusive practices in early learning services, schools and other educational settings
   » providing professional support and guidance to schools, teachers and families and building the capacity of those who are best placed to support the learning of children and young people
   » providing appropriate in-depth specialist assessment and analysis for evidenced informed interventions
   » working as part of a trans-disciplinary team where a child’s needs are complex.
About you
To be prosperous you will need:
   » a Masters level tertiary qualification and a post-graduate Diploma in Psychology
   » registration under the Health Practitioners Competency Assurance Act and to hold a current practicing certificate
   » an capability to translate specialist knowledge into practical information
   » an capability to co-ordinate service provision in a multi-agency, trans-disciplinary setting
   » excellent communication and interpersonal expertise and an capability to work effectively with children, young people and their families and teachers across a diverse range of settings
   » the capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
