Publications and Editorial:Liz ByronJob description:Job DescriptionCommunications Advisor - Publications and EditorialThe PSA Te P?kenga Here Tikanga Mahi is the largest union in New Zealand and is an innovative and dynamic organisation employing 190 staff all over New Zealand. We have more than 80,000 members working in central and local government, health and community services. The focus of the PSA is to advance the rights and conditions of members through building collectively in the workplace. The PSA takes a strategic approach to building unionism. The PSA has a vacancy for a Communications Advisor - Publications and Editorial. The position is part of the Communications team. The primary function of the Communications team is to take a pro-active approach to providing communications and resource materials to inform and educate members and build campaigns both within the union and with the wider community. The is a full-time, permanent position located in our Wellington office. The focus of the Publications and Editorial advisor function is to create and edit high quality publications for PSA membership, particularly Te Mahinga Ora magazine and all member PSA news. The team also shares some generalist communications responsibilities. The team is comprised of communications advisors and campaign organisers with a range of specialist (graphic design, media, social media, campaigns) and generalist expertise. The prosperous applicant will have an capability to convey information to intended audiences and is able to exercise strategic judgement as to when and on what issues a media release or media contact is appropriate. This is a stimulating and busy position that requires someone who is highly motivated, has a high level of political consciousness, an in-depth knowledge of the function of unions in a democratic society and with the expertise to make an important contribution to the PSA's organising work. We are seeking for someone who can work well with other members of the communication team and with other PSA staff.
