While we work in different groups and on different things, we all strive every day to make the biggest difference we can for every child, young person and adult student in our education system About our group The Secondary Tertiary Group sits within Early Learning and Student Achievement (ELSA) and covers the transition from senior secondary through to tertiary and employment. ELSA works to make learning and teaching significant, real and valued. We deliver and maintain critical services for the education sector to support responsive learner pathways from early childhood into further education, training, the workforce and society. ELSA performs a crucial function working between the strategy and policy teams, and the sector facing functions. The Secondary Tertiary Group is responsible for operational policy, curriculum and support programmes for Year 11-13 learners, and the secondary-tertiary interface. This includes senior secondary curriculum, NCEA (including the continuing NCEA Review and preparing for the Review of Achievement Standards) and secondary-tertiary pathways a nd transitions. Business Adviser function The Business Adviser, Secondary Tertiary provides corporate support across the Secondary Tertiary team work programme, projects and new initiatives to ensure that Early Learning and Student Achievement delivers on their priorities. For current and upcoming projects, the Business Adviser supports the Group Manager, Business Manager and Senior Managers to organise and control project activities, and ensure projects are delivered in conformity with best practice and Ministry process and documentation requirements. About the person We are seeking for someone who is thoughtful, agile and adept at handling ambiguity and complexity. Our ideal candidate will take pride in producing high quality work and will be comfortable working independently to achieve defined objectives. We are wanting someone who is a high-level project coordinator and looking to progress into a project manager function. They will be able to get involved in the operational processes of a project, have a proactive mindset and be able to identify and mitigate risks as they arise. The person will be sensitive to cultural values and have a good knowledge of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi. They will have sharp interpersonal expertise, superior writing expertise, and will be comfortable working with a diverse range of stakeholders and representing the Ministry. practice and qualifications Candidates will ideally have the following: » Project management or operational processes practice » May have or be working towards a significant tertiary qualification or project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE 2 Practitioner or PMP/CAPM certified) » practice in working across projects with multiple workstreams and competing pressures » practice in using project management methodologies, techniques, documentation and standards » practice in working within the public sector and knowledge of the political environment and how related issues should be managed » practice in organising – identifying what matters, anticipating next steps, accurately delivering what was commissioned Are you ready to make a difference?
