Help shape the future of education At the Ministry of Education, we work together to shape an education system that delivers equitable and excellent results. Our organisation is made up of more than 3,000 talented and committed people around New Zealand, from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. While we work in different groups and on different things, we all strive every day to make the biggest difference we can for every child, young person and adult student in our education system. About the Early Learning and Student Achievement Group At the heart of the work of the Early Learning and Student Achievement Group is making sure that every day, in every early learning service, k?hanga reo, school, and kura, the education workforce and curriculum delivery is world class, and focused on what New Zealanders need for their best future. Secondary Tertiary is in the Early Learning and Student Achievement (ELSA) Group. Information technology is responsible for setting the standards of NCEA qualifications that students study when they are at senior secondary school levels. About this function You will work within the Production House team which is a new team that is part of theReview of Achievement Standards(RAS) project. The RAS project is a key mechanism for achieving the objectives in theNCEA Change Programme. Through the RAS, NCEA Level 1, 2 and 3 standards will be developed that are consistent with the policy goal of having more foundational learning at NCEA Level 1, with more specialisation at Levels 2-3. There are currently over 1,000 achievement standards across NCEA. The Production House team works alongside the Senior Secondary team, and other teams, in developing products for the RAS project alongside leaders from the education sector. You will work alongside teachers and other stakeholders from the education sector to produce new standards and connected products for NCEA. You are responsible for providing technical (written) skills so that high-quality written products are produced; and undertake analysis. You will work closely with a lead from the Senior Secondary team who will facilitate the stakeholder group(s) you support. The functions report to the manager of the Production House team: Senior Manager, NCEA Product Delivery. The Production House is envisaged to comprise a moderate-sized team of about 12-14 technical writers. About you Just like New Zealand, we want our teams to be diverse. All candidates are encouraged to apply. To be prosperous in the function, you’ll be comfortable with becoming the technical expert in a group setting and key driver of product development behind the scenes in the Ministry, and at times with NZQA (our partner in the project). You will work with other parts of our business to get products completed, to-time and to high quality. Much of your production skills can be expected to be developed on the job, as Information technology relates to a new function and team being developed in the Ministry. Training will be provided but candidates should have strong written skills and attention to detail. This would be a good entry position into a high profile government department with a great reputation. Prior practice in the education sector and/or in another government department would be desirable but not essential. Existing technical writers should apply but other people with skillsets like policy analysis should also consider this. People who can think conceptually and produce documents to suit client and technical needs would do well in this function. You should be confident at discussing matters, undertaking research, performing analysis and presenting your contributions to small groups – both internally in the Ministry and externally as part of the RAS project. A familiarity with project located methodologies like PRINCE2 would be advantageous but not essential. We offer the following: » Exciting opportunity to be part of a new team and function as Information technology is built within a leading government department » Opportunities to develop within the team over the course of a major project over the next five years » As training needs are identified the team will receive additional support » The Ministry operates flexible working arrangements meaning that you could be working in the house at times Are you ready to make a difference? We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds, including M?ori, Pacific and those with disabilities, who will enrich our knowledge of the education system. The Ministry is committed to the Treaty of Waitangi including working for and with M?ori education professionals, teachers; and students, their wh?nau, hap? and iwi.
