Job Opportunity: Senior Legal Advisor:Central Agency Shared ServicesJob description:Job DescriptionApplications are sought for the position of Senior Legal Advisor in the Cabinet Office. This is a fixed term position for six months, covering a period of parental leave.The Cabinet Office has a unique place in the New Zealand public service, supporting the Governor-General, the Prime Minister, Cabinet and Ministers in the conduct of executive government. Information technology advises on a wide variety of policy, constitutional and legal issues, and facilitates the recognition of outstanding New Zealanders through the New Zealand Royal Honours system. The Senior Legal Advisor is responsible for advice to the Governor-General, the Prime Minister and other Ministers, and government agencies on legal, policy and constitutional issues affecting executive government, especially those contained in the Cabinet Manual. We’re looking for a lawyer with 4 – 5+ years’ PQE, with a good knowledge of New Zealand’s constitutional framework and executive government processes, proven practice in providing accurate, timely legal advice, and with the capability to get up to speed quickly and work calmly under pressure. You must have excellent communication and interpersonal expertise, and high levels of tact, discretion, and good judgement. You will be working in a collegial, hard-working, high performing team with a strong sense of purpose and public service. Secondments welcomed.
