Our mission is to be the most accessible orchestra in the country, enabling people from all walks of life to practice the thrill of live music. Each year, we reach more than 65,000 people in Wellington and the wider region through our concert series at the Michael Fowler Centre, family, community and education performances and accompanying ballet and opera productions.The orchestra is now looking for a new General Manager to lead the organisation forward. This is a key function which is responsible for: » The strategic direction, business performance, financial sustaincapability and day-to-day management of the organisation » Management of the orchestra's resources - capital, financial and people, including a small administration team of five » Development of an exciting annual programme of concerts, education and outreach activities, in partnership with the Music Director, as well as forward planning for future seasons, hires and major projects » earnings generation, commercial opportunities, partnerships and innovation » Stakeholder relationships, including artists, performance partners, funders, donors, Mayors and Councillors, media. Essential attributes: Excellent communication expertise, influencing expertise and stakeholder relationship management Strong financial management - setting and meeting budgets and earnings targets, and capability to present financial information to the Board in a way that enables them to make decisions Excellent people management expertise capability to articulate a strategy that embodies the organisation's vision, and build a business plan to achieve it Artistic and musical knowledge, commitment to artistic excellence Commercial and business acumen - earnings generation through hires and partnerships Commitment to education and community outreach knowledge of marketing and audience engagement capability to assess and manage financial and artistic risk Self-starter, independent thinker, good at managing workload for self and others Calm under pressure, capability to make sound decisions quickly on incomplete information and under pressure Desired practice: 5+ years in a leadership abilities position within the arts & cultural sector Management of significant operational budgets Demonstrable commitment to education and outreach practice in growing earnings from commercial partnerships and fundraising 5+ years managing teams Links & Contact info: Orchestra Wellington website How to submit the application: For a full job description or to request an informal confidential chat about the position, email Margaret Myers (margaretm@orchestrawellington.co.nz).
