Kawau Bay Kitchen is a small, owner operated restaurant located on the main street of Orewa, seating a maximum capacity of 50 covers, (30 inside 20 outside). Information technology is owned by a passionate couple with lots of front of house hospitality practice, who aim to bring a unique offering to the Hibiscus Coast for quality, great produce and a focus on seasonal ingredients with a great wine and drinks menu to match. The boutique style restaurant has a comfortable feel and is loved by locals and visitors alike, the practiced team at Kawau Bay Kitchen ensure all guests have a great and memorable practice from the service, the food, the wine and the atmosphere.

We have a great opportunity to be part of our Kitchen team as the Head Chef.
At Kawau Bay Kitchen, every employee contributes to a seamless and memorable guest practice. We are a highly collaborative team, who are passionate about hospitality and are proud of where we work. We believe that our unique and often changing menu makes us arguably one of the Coast’s best eateries! The restaurant operates 4 and a half days a week from Wednesday to Sunday afternoon, where we close at 2.30pm ensuring two and a half days off a week. 
As the Head Chef you will have soul charge of the kitchen with 1-2 chefs working with you, 3 kitchen hands and supportive owners on hand to help too. 
You lead the kitchen team to deliver on exceptional meal and dining practices for all guests. You will be equally skilled and practiced in cooking, planning and managing a team in a fast paced environment, and will provide strong communication expertise.
Your passion for fresh ingredients, exceptional tastes and flavours, smart menu design along with cost effective processes, will ensure that all food services of the restaurant, (brunch on Saturday and Sunday mornings, lunch and dinner 4.5 days a week) are consistent and celebrated by our guests. The menu has a variety of ‘Bites’ entrees, mains and desserts, we aim to change the menu every 2-3 months to celebrate the seasons and availcapability of produce and keep your creative juices flowing. In the future we’d like to introduce a ‘Trust the Chef’ style menu and have previously run wine events with paired food which we’d like to continue and develop further.

KEY Job responsibilities:
You will:
• be in charge of menu development and food purchasing, keeping watch on international trends and ensuring creativity in dishes. While maintaining costs, you will have a focus on fresh, local and sustainable ingredients, a vibrant and regularly changing menu with the highest food quality and consistent plating and presentation.
• bring diverse and unique expertise/techniques to the kitchen, to cover breakfast, lunch and dinner that will surprise and delight customers.
• ensure the kitchen is running effectively and profitably by managing food and wage costs and food wastage.
• manage, lead, train, inspire and mentor the chefs always, plus provide any additional support to staff who have been assigned food preparation tasks.
• Collaborate with Owners to find market opportunities and implement creative strategies to attract new customers.
