We are seeking for an energetic, action-oriented and passionate person to design and lead a new JustSpeak campaign focused on ending the mass incarceration of w?hine M?ori in Aotearoa and achieving policy wins for community located alternatives.

About JustSpeak
We're a young but rapidly growing organisation, founded in 2011, focused on transforming the criminal justice system to create a fair, just and flourishing Aoatearoa. Our vision is for a future we've reimagined justice to be about health and not handcuffs and where we've closed the last prison – for good. We work to achieve long term systemic change by shifting our society's focus and resources from policing and prisons toward community interventions, health and wellbeing.
JustSpeak's mahi focuses on three key areas; building the capacity and power of the justice movement and of young people in particular; shifting the public narrative on justice through storytelling and in the media; and leading advocacy and campaigns to change government policy, practice and resourcing on justice kaupapa

The function
You'll be designing and leading the strategy of the campaign, with support and input from the Director and guidance from our M?ori caucus.
Some of the key things this function will involve are:
   » Building and nurturing relationships with allies and key stakeholders and creating opportunities for collaboration and collective action.
   » Amplifying the voices and recommendations of people with skills on this issue, in particular from those with lived practice.
   » Finding and creating moments when people can make a real difference on this kaupapa, and enacting practical plans to make change possible.
   » Crafting great comms (e.g emails, petitions, op-eds, public talks or videos) to build support for this campaign and get traction for progressive policy change.
   » Getting great media coverage of the campaign and of the stories of real people affected by this issue.
   » Help to create and deepen opportunities for JustSpeak supporters, volunteers and the wider justice movement to take action on this kaupapa.
Ideally you will have 2+ years significant practice (for example in community or union organising, youth work, with a kaupapa M?ori organisation, or campaigning), but Information technology doesn't have to be in a paid capacity.
Job location: Wellington/Auckland/Anywhere in New Zealand. Our office is in central Wellington but we will provide support for remote working.
Hours: .9 FTE (36 hours a week or a 9 day fortnight), with some flexibility
Pay: Between $65k – 70k+ pro rata, depending on practice
Must haves:
   » Passion for the kaupapa of transforming justice.
   » Strong personal knowledge of the lived practices of w?hine M?ori in Aotearoa.
   » Action oriented and willing to try, learn, fail and adapt.
   » Great communication skills.
   » practice in relationship and coalition building; not shy to pick up phone, forge and nurture relationships with people from all backgrounds.
   » capability to turn ideas and concepts into workable strategies and plans.
Nice to haves
   » Previous practice running or being involved in a campaign for social or environmental change.
   » Pitching stories to or working with news media.
   » Strategy development and project management.
   » Familiarity or practice with te reo M?ori me ?na tikanga.
   » Strong digital skills and a availability to lgain new technologies.
   » significant study or research practice (including but not limited to m?tauranga M?ori, kaupapa M?ori research, politics, criminology, social and youth work, policy or law).
