Ministerial Appointed Board Members to the Tai W?nanga Board
Would you like to be considered for position on the Tai W?nanga Board appointed by the Minister of Education?
The Tai W?nanga Board constitution currently allows for up to three members to be appointed by the Minister of Education.
About the School
The Tai W?nanga Board is responsible for the governance of the school’s two sites – Tu Toa in Palmerston North and Ruakura in Hamilton. The Board is the employer of school staff and sets the school’s overall strategic direction. Members of the Board work to ensure educational plans are in place and the goals of the school are met for the benefit of all students and their wh?nau.
Tai W?nanga’s mission is ‘toempower taiohi to achieve, to contribute and to lead the advancement of M?ori’.Tai W?nanga offers a unique, holistic and tailored educational practice where learners aspirations and interests are nurtured with the focus on mental, physical, emotional and spiritual all over the learning journey and towards a career aspiration plan.

Board members require a broad range of expertise and practice:
   » Information technology is absolutely essential that Board members have governance practice (preferably in education, or the public sector); and
   » An interest or knowledge of the kaupapa of Tai W?nanga and the education and welfare of its students; and
   » An knowledge of the needs of the Ministry’s priority groups of learners which include students with learning support needs, and M?ori and Pacific students
Other knowledge or expertise below are also desirable:
   » practice in areas such as Education, Finance, Law, Property, Human Resources, Health and /or the Social Sector
We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds, including M?ori, Pacific and those with disabilities, who will enrich our knowledge of the education system.
Eligibility
Please note that Clauses 9 and 10 of Schedule 23 of the Education and Training Act 2020, list the categories of persons who are not eligible to be selected to a casual vacancy, elected, appointed or co-opted as board members. Please refer to the attached document above regarding eligibility for this function.
